What Is Required to Be a Licensed Broker in Portugal?

In Portugal, a real estate broker must obtain an AMI (Agência de Mediação Imobiliária) license from the Institute of Public Markets, Real Estate and Construction (IMPIC).

Requirements Overview:

• Application: Must be submitted to IMPIC
• No Criminal Record: Applicants must have a clean criminal record
• Civil Liability Insurance: Minimum of €150,000 coverage required
• Fees: Licensing and annual regulation fees apply
• Training: Some training may be required, especially for newcomers
• Exam: A Portuguese-language exam is typically required
