Important Courtesy Note
Please only select Business Areas and Business Categories that truly apply to your listing. Choosing areas or categories that do not apply can be viewed like spamming and may reduce the value of the service for everyone.
Example: If it is a commercial/industrial site, choose the appropriate commercial/industrial category — not an unrelated business opportunity category.
Step 1: Log In and Add Your Haves and Wants
- Go to www.iciworld.com.
- Click Log In Member Management
- Click on the red button Manage Listings Add, Modify, Mark Sold, Delete Messages.
- Click on Member Log In on the left.
- If you are on your own computer, choose the one-year login option, so you do not have to log in each time. If you are on an office computer, choose one hour, a session or one day. That way, other people cannot log in as you.
- Click Add Have/Want.
- Fill in the form carefully.
- Click Submit Information.
- After submitting, click Latest World on the left to see how the public sees your listing.
- To make changes, click My Listings.
Step 2: Choose the Correct Business Area
The Business Area determines where your listing is displayed and where it may be emailed.
Do not stop too early. Select every correct level that applies.
Example: Canada Listing
Canada → Ontario → Greater Toronto Area → Toronto
Example: USA Listing
USA → Southeast Region → Florida
If you only select “USA” and do not select “Florida,” people searching Florida may not see your listing.
Step 3: Choose the Correct Business Category
Select the category that best describes the property, business, or buyer requirement.
- Single family homes: Residential estates, single family homes, cottages, vacation properties, etc.
- Duplex/triplex: Residential Estates and Apartment Buildings.
- Income property: Choose every relevant investment category.
- Commercial site: Choose the correct commercial/industrial site category.
Rule: If a category does not truly apply, do not select it.
Step 4: Write a Powerful Subject Line
Your subject line is extremely important because it is what people see first in searches and email circulation.
Use this formula:
Location + Type + Size/Price + Sizzle
For Wants: Always start the subject line with the word Wanted.
Subject Line Examples
Have Example
Toronto Retail Plaza, $3.2M, Fully Leased, Upside Potential
Want Example
Wanted: London to Toronto to Belleville, N. to Barrie, Niagara Region, Apartment Building, $2M-$10M, Qualified Buyer, Can Act Quickly. (Use geographic limitations by city rather than an area or 1-2 hours away.)
Business Example
Hamilton Donut Shop, $155K, Busy Location, Owner Retiring, Excellent Opportunity
Avoid These Common Mistakes
- Do not put phone numbers, emails, websites, or exact addresses in the subject line.
- Do not type the whole subject in capital letters.
- Do not select all areas or all categories unless they truly apply.
- Do not use vague subject lines like “Great Deal” or “Property Available.”
- Do not forget to mark a Want as a Want in the Have/Want category.
- Do not enter duplicate messages by clicking submit twice.
Step 5: Use the Body of the Listing Properly
The body of your listing can include more details, contact information, links, photos, and helpful background.
Recommendation: For confidential opportunities, avoid placing the exact property address. Use the city or general area first so you can qualify the prospect before disclosing details.
Step 6: Add Helpful Links
Use the Internet Links box to help sell the location and opportunity.
- Link to your own listing page.
- Link to local economic development information.
- Link to the Chamber of Commerce.
- Link to city, tourism, or investment information.
- Use the link helper so people can click the words instead of copying a long URL.
Step 7: Check, Update, and Keep Listings Fresh
- After adding a listing, click Latest World to check it.
- Read the subject line and body exactly as the public sees it.
- Check links to make sure they work.
- Check for duplicates.
- Modify listings every 31–60 days.
- Never let your messages be older than 90 days.
- Use My Listings to modify, delete, or mark listings sold.
